The Plant Parent Starter Kit: 7 Quiet Upgrades for the Plants You Already Own

Updated August 26, 2026

Most indoor plants are bought and then left exactly as they arrived: a plastic nursery pot on a windowsill, watered from a kitchen glass that drips down the wall. Nothing is wrong with that. It just never looks like anything.

These seven are the ordinary fixes for that. Somewhere to hang a trailing plant, something to pot it in, something to raise it off the floor, something to hide the plastic, something to water it with that reaches the back of the shelf, something green for the corner where nothing real survives, and something to mist the ones that want humidity.

Three of these listings disagree with themselves, which is worth knowing before you order: the jute basket is called cotton rope in one of its own bullets, the ceramic set gives two different widths for the small pot, and the glass mister's title and spec table disagree on capacity.

MIPON 3 Pack Macrame Plant Hangers, Hanging Planters for Indoor Plants
01

MIPON 3 Pack Macrame Plant Hangers, Hanging Planters for Indoor Plants

Three handwoven cotton hangers in 34, 41 and 46 inch lengths. The seller states they fit 5-10 inch pots and that the sturdy construction holds up to 12 pounds.

White Plant Pots, Ceramic Flower Pot Set of 3 with Drainage Holes and Saucers
02

White Plant Pots, Ceramic Flower Pot Set of 3 with Drainage Holes and Saucers

A set of three ribbed ceramic pots in different sizes, each with a drainage hole and an attached saucer to minimise water run-off. The seller lists them as suitable for herbs, peace lily, succulents, orchid and cactus. Note that the bullets give the small pot as 3.1 inches while the seller's own size chart says 4.0, so measure before you commit.

Fox & Fern Mid Century Plant Stand for Indoor Planters, Acacia, 14.9 Inch
03

Fox & Fern Mid Century Plant Stand for Indoor Planters, Acacia, 14.9 Inch

Natural acacia with a plug-in design the seller describes as no-tool assembly. It fits pots up to 14.9 inches wide and at least 10 inches high, and turning it upside down gives a second height from the same stand. The pot in the photo is not included.

TIMEYARD Jute Rope Plant Basket, Planter for Indoor Plants, Black and Jute
04

TIMEYARD Jute Rope Plant Basket, Planter for Indoor Plants, Black and Jute

A pot cover that hides a plastic nursery pot. The seller states it fits cylinder pots from 8 up to 10 inches in diameter, has sturdy handles and folds flat when not in use. Worth knowing: the title and spec table say jute while one bullet calls it cotton rope, so the listing disagrees with itself on the fibre.

Watering Can for Indoor Plants, 35 oz Stainless Steel with Long Spout, Black
05

Watering Can for Indoor Plants, 35 oz Stainless Steel with Long Spout, Black

1000 ml capacity in stainless steel, which the seller describes as leakproof and rust-resistant, with a round wooden handle. The long thin spout delivers water precisely where you aim it. The styled photo also shows the white and gold colourways of the same listing; the link goes to the black one.

Mkono Fake Plant in Ceramic Pot, 17 Inch Potted Artificial Pothos Home Decor
06

Mkono Fake Plant in Ceramic Pot, 17 Inch Potted Artificial Pothos Home Decor

For the corner that gets no light. The ceramic pot is 4.3 inches in diameter and the plant measures approximately 17 inches from the bottom of the pot to the top of the leaves. Needs assembling per the seller, and the leaves are detachable so they can be pushed back into the stem.

OFFIDIX Fine Mist Plant Mister, Glass Spray Bottle, Green, 15 oz
07

OFFIDIX Fine Mist Plant Mister, Glass Spray Bottle, Green, 15 oz

Thickened glass the seller says is not easily broken, with a nozzle you twist to switch between stream and fine mist. Marketed as a reusable alternative to plastic spray bottles. The title says 15 oz while the spec table says 430 ml, so the listing is inconsistent on capacity.

If you buy one thing, make it the macrame hangers. They are the cheapest item here, and hanging a pothos solves two problems at once - it frees the shelf and it puts trailing growth out of reach of a cat. The plant stand is the one that changes a room the most, and the flip-for-a-second-height trick means it works for a tall pot now and a short one later. Two things to check before ordering: the stand fits pots up to 14.9 inches wide but needs them to be at least 10 inches high, and the jute basket fits cylinder pots from 8 to 10 inches across, so measure the pot you actually own rather than the plant.
